A large image of Gwen
Stefani is used to dominate the majority of this advert, The image denotes her
sat in a throne like chair holding a crown and a cane, portraying royalty and
high class status. The scale of the image is to represent her personae as a
strong female character. The image uses complementary colours and tones within
it, A lot of yellow and golds are used to connote how royalty is portrayed in
this image, showing wealth and a stronger upper class working category. The
style of the image is very abstract and has the effect that it has been painted
opposed to a straight photograph has been taken. The painted effect makes the
image look out of focus , however Gwen Stefani's face is in a stronger focus
then the rest of the image, to create the effect of a shallow focus. Her lips in
the image are very detailed and highlighted with red lip stick this connotes
that she is portrayed as a typical female with strong characteristics. A smaller
image is positioned in the bottom left hand corner to show the overall look of
the album so that it is not just the face of the artist that is trying to be
sold within this advert it is the actual branded album product that is been sold
as the intention of this advert.
The text that is
used on this advert has a very bold and flamboyant, to emphasise on the class
that this advert is trying to portray. Bold gold text ' Gwen Stefani' is
positioned three quarters of the way down the page. This positioning has been
carefully selected so that it does not take any focus away from her identity,
but still informs the audience who the poster is advertising. Using the colour
gold and making to font bold , again emphasises on the royal vibe that is been
portrayed with in this advert and Gwen Stefani's personal style. Text in the
same font and style is used in a smaller contexts underneath the bold heading to
inform the audience and her new album. One of her song titles 'Rich girl' is
positioned on the lower end of the advert, this is effective because natural our
eyes look top to bottom , so because of this we can look at the advert from the
top downwards and get a feel for what it is trying to portray and sell to us as
an audience before we are even given a literal insight.
The image and the
text have a strong relationship with each other as the image is portraying
wealth, status class and royalty the text anchorage's this by complimenting the
way it represented to create an effective composition to show royalty as an
overall outcome. It creates a wealthy personae about this advertisement
suggesting that her choice in pop music genre is focused around wealth and
status as issues in her songs, this is emphasised my the song '
Rich Girl'.
The iconography
of this artist represents her genre well as she is portraying an image of wealth
and royalty of status, meaning she has had to work hard to get there to achieve
her popularity of the pop genre. It also signifies to the target audience that
hard work gets you where you want to be so she is portraying a good successful
self image to her audience which makes her icon more popular in the media.
