Storyboard Images

This is the storyboard i drew up which we then made into an animatic. I made sure to include lots of drawings to give a lot of ideas about what will be included and at roughly what stage in the music video. Although these pictures are rough and not exactly the most professional looking drawings they give us a good guide to follow. We used this to look back over to make sure we're staying on track with our original plans or to plan forward and decide to change something eg. adding the diner shots in.

As you can see here we had planned to put outdoor scenes in but due to the weather at the time of filming this wasn't possible so we decided against these shots.

These shots show the dance scenes which made it to the final cut.

From an early stage we had the idea of splitting the screen as shown in this drawing.

We kept the original ideas of dressing Jenny up in different outfits to relate to the lyrics.

Here are the original drawings of the projection screen shots. We knew these would make the final cut as they added a different feel from the rest of the music video.

We kept the green eyes shot in, but had to change the way we did it as the props we wanted to use
                                                                                    didn't work.

Photoshoot

Happy Daze was the location we chose for our photo shoot, we used the location to film in also. This location is a strong convention to the theme of our video and the genre style we are aiming it to as a target audience. This theme was inspired by the Beyonce video 'why dont you love me' to show portrayal of strong females within that period of time. This location has a very strong 50's diner theme which we are wanting to portray in the video. Making the most from the location, props, costume and performance the entire mise-en-scene made a great opportunity to capture some strong images for an advert and digipak. The lighting in the diner made it feel very themed , minimal natural lighting was used but a lot of artificial light was used and reflected off surfaces to make areas more high key than others.
DSC_1970, 1972,1973,1974,1975,1976. The focus and the lighting on these images have been successful in framing but in the background of the frame we can see out of the video to a 21st century environment. Which does not work well with the theme therefore these images may not be the best choice to use.

DSC_2018 the framing in this images is not as strong as it could have been so i would not choose to work with this image. The images do appear to be dark on the contact sheet but on a larger scale the artificial spotlighting highlights areas of the framing to create a 50's and dated theme.

DSC_2055 this image is too dark and would not be used. DSC_2047 to DSC_2052 have worked successfully using the car front in the diner as a prop it creates an interesting composition for the model to work with, Highlighting the theme well to attract the audience.

DSC_2079 to DSC_2086 have very low key lighting and the focus is not very strong making the image quality poor. The composition in images 2084 to 2086 have an exit sign and a toilet sign in the background making it less attractive to the audience. The images where the model is interacting with the props are successful as it makes you feel like you are watching in on her showing voyeurism as though we are looking in attracting a male gaze like Laura Mulveys theory.

This section of the photoshoot the model interacted with the props that we had access to at the venue. This gave off a fun and flirty vibe to this section of the shoot, to portray the conventions of a typical 50's strong female character.

Images DSC_2124 to DSC_2131 are strong quality in a sharp focus, the mise-en-scene plays a strong part of the images in these shots, the costume and the setting really highlight the look of 50' theme we aimed to capture. The rest of the images in this section of the shoot were less successful and the lighting was dark which spoilt the effect of the framing we where trying to capture.

Rough Cut 1

This is our first rough cut. We aim to add more snappy shots and interesting effects to add excitment to the music video and compliment the song. We need to carry on with this progress to complete the video instead of only having a short teaser, we will do this by adding the diner shots in next. Once we add the bits we definitely know where to put we will fill in gaps with more clips and technical features.

Shooting Schedule

This includes ideas for every line in the song. We followed this when filming to make sure we included all of our ideas and they were all in the right place. It helped us to see clearly what clothing and props we needed and where we would be filming. It made the whole filming process quicker and easier than trying to go through the process without it.

Group Meeting 19.11.12

We decided to film at Happy Daze at Hartlepool Marina to make our music video more themed and iteresting. It will give it more of the 50's feel that we are going for. We filmed on 16.11.12 and got lots of new and interesting shots.

Storyboard Animatic

This is our storyboard showing what shots we want in what order. We tried to show detail to explain our ideas so we knew exactly what we wanted and where. It is basically a developed version of our initial ideas and our treatment sheet but in minute detail for roughly each line in the song.

Recce Shots

These are the recce shots we have taken from the set up of our shoots, we have images from learning the dance routine and practicing with the lights and performers and the set up of using the green screen and the equipment.

This is me teaching the other dancers the routine for the dance shots. We had 4 rehearsals to ensure everyone knew what they were doing and could perform it to the best of their ability.

This is us rehearsing with the multicolour lights on to see how it would look when we are actually filming the real thing. We had to get used to how hot the lights were too!

We had to set up the cameras to ensure the green screen worked properly. We had to position them so that there wasn't any green 'haze' on certain parts of the screen. We made sure we did this while Jenny was in place too so that we wouldn't have to change it again once she went on screen.

You may be able to see the 'haze' around Jenny that I was talking about previously, we had to get some professional help to adjust the computers to ensure a professional looking clip.

These are the cameras we used for filming in front of the green screen. We had to learn how to set them up and operate them.

This is the studio where we filmed in front of the green screen. You can see the computers, cameras and screens we used to make sure the filming looked right.

These are the lights used in the studio to make sure there aren't any shadows which might show up on the green screen and ruin the effect.

This is when we used the computers to add the background colours to the green screen. We had to learn how to apply and change the backgrounds and how to record and stop.

Group Meeting 6.11.12

We have done the majority of our filming but still have a few more bits to do in a different location. We have split up the tasks between the two of us and aim to catch up on previous tasks today so that from now on we are on task and we can comfortably take time editing and doing the last bits of filming. We are going to research how to do some things that have gone wrong e.g. The acetate paper didn’t wipe away, so that it looks professional.  We have made a basic schedule for the next few lessons so we are prepared each lesson to crack on with what we have to do. As long as we stick to this lesson plans we will be on track to finish at the set deadlines.
